My Ode to Internet Explorer

OK, everyone else has given some sort of heartfelt adios to Internet Explorer, why not me?

Internet Explorer is Sunset

Well, Internet Explorer has been sunset. Does this matter? Not really, as I see it. We web developers are going to have to support it for a long time to come.

Not sure how many of you are familiar with corporate technology, but they don’t exactly change quickly. Some industries more than others, but few move or adapt quickly.

Presumably most have moved to Edge by now, but not all, and many don’t allow users to choose. So really, it’ll be out in the wild for quite a while I suspect, and will live on to taunt developers.

I tend to feel like this article’s title; “Goodbye, Internet Explorer. You won’t be missed (but you’ll be remembered)“. It was never a great browser. It was successful because it was bundled with Windows. If not for that, it never would have stood on it’s own merit.

Substandard support for most technologies. Made any JavaScript developer pull their hair out in frustration. CSS at times was humorous at best.

It’s been the subject of jokes among development teams, and eventually became a cliche’. It made way for Firefox, which was a solid browser that at first took down Netscape, then IE. Of course, the browser wars became fun with the introduction of Chrome, which is the far and away winner currently…and I’d suggest will be for the foreseeable future.

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!
